O&S Heads to Nuit Belge in Three US Cities!

Although last year O&S had a hand in bringing chocolatey deliciousness to the Nuit Belge held right here in Nashville at Marathon Music Works, this year we're taking our sweet treats on the road!

We'll be down in the Big Easy for Nuit Belge's New Orleans installation next week, at the festival's Atlanta showing February 25th, and in Charleston, SC to show the Palmetto State what's up with Southern Artisan Chocolate at the end of March (3/25). Of course, it would be crazy for us to leave Music City out of the mix, so we're rounding out the tour with our favorite city in the south, Nashville.

We'll be offering two of our favorite Seersucker Candy Co. confections, our Muzzle Loaders and Cherry Bombs, as well as a new feature by Seersucker: Absinthe Gummy Bears!

With over a dozen well-known local restaurants participating in the event in each city, there's sure to be no shortage of deliciousness. And since each bite to eat is paired with a specially selected beer, the drinks will be flowing as well!

Nuit Belge Southern Tour:

Ticket prices range from $99-$149 and include entry, tasting glass, festival program, and all food/beverage. Click on the name of the city (above) for which you'd like to attend to purchase tickets.

If you're planning to be in New Orleans, Atlanta, or Charleston at the right time (or just need an excuse to take a southern vacay) we hope we'll see you at one or all of these incredibly fun affairs!

Longer Hours at O&S!

The days sure have gotten shorter since we set the clocks back, but fortunately for our customers the days are getting longer over at the chocolate factory!

Now that it actually feels *a little bit* like winter here in Nashville, we're getting in the holiday spirit: we've been cranking out our famous Peppermint Bark, putting together gift sets for you to take home and put right under the tree, and we've even turned the tunes in our stores to the likes of Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby.

But there's one other thing we're excited to do to ensure O&S makes it into the hands of everyone you love this season: we're extending our hours! For real.

Olive & Sinclair and Seersucker Awarded "Good Food!"

Since 2012, The Good Food Awards have aimed to recognize makers and producers around the country that create truly good food that brings people together and helps foster a stronger, closer community. The GFA's celebrate delicious, authentic and responsibly produced food that everyone wants to eat and most of all enjoy!

There are many categories into which the Good Food Awards break up their nominees -- 14 to be exact! -- and there were two we were angling for: Chocolate and Confections. This year, the Good Food Awards had 2,059 entries and the judges narrowed it down to a group of just 291 finalists spread across all fourteen categories.

We are thrilled to announce that Olive & Sinclair's Mexican-Style Chocolate Bar made it as a finalist in the category of Chocolate and that Seersucker Candy Co's Muzzle Loaders are a finalist in the category of Confections

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait to hear if we've won in each category until the new year. But we're heading out to San Francisco for the Good Food Show in early January and will be crossing our fingers that they say our name at the Awards Ceremony on January 20th!

Regardless, we're thrilled and honored to be included among the list of finalists and can't wait to get our hands on some of their goodies when we're out in SF in just a couple months.

Thank you, Good Food Awards for the honor!

Tis' The Season for Peppermint Bark!

With the Holiday Season fast approaching, we at the factory are crackin' the whip on preparing our holiday confections. You know what that means? Peppermint Bark!

It wouldn't be Christmas without Peppermint Bark, so in the interest of all you proactive shoppers out there, we're getting this stuff into production well before the Black Friday Rush or, even scarier, the Christmas Eve Dash. But if you know anything about our Peppermint Bark, you know it's not like the other stuff you'll find in the candy aisle: our peppermint bark takes between 5-6 days to make from start to finish!

Although our Ghana single-origin 67% Chocolate lays the literal foundation for this wintry favorite treat, it's our Buttermilk White Chocolate and house-made Peppermint Candy that make it so unique.

It takes between five and six days to create our Buttermilk White chocolate from start to finish, a slow-n-low process that mixes cocoa butter, cane sugar and buttermilk powder into smooth, velvety perfection, and our peppermint candy is hand-pulled and dyed pink naturally with beet juice. You'll find no store-bought peppermint or questionable white chocolate here. Our stuff is the real deal!

Once all the separate components have been completed, we layer buttermilk white chocolate over 67% dark chocolate, sprinkle freshly crushed peppermint pieces over the top, let everything set up for about 15 minutes....and then break it up into bark-worthy pieces!

Olive & Sinclair Peppermint Bark is a treat that takes a lot of time, dedication and work, this crunchy, creamy and minty delight only comes out around the same time as Ol' Saint Nick - so don't miss your chance to get your hands on some.

We're making a slightly limited supply of the good stuff this year...so get yours today!

O&S Featured in Paste Magazine

It really never gets old: we always find it flattering and exciting when there's someone out there in the world who wants to write about little ol' us, Olive & Sinclair Chocolate -- especially when it's a hip and trendy magazine like Paste

Paste writer Laura Studaris wrote a feature on "6 Small Batch Chocolatiers You Need in Your Life," and we were thrilled to be mentioned among the likes of chocolatiers. From Hawaii, to San Fransisco, to Iceland and beyond, this round-up includes some incredible chocolatiers -- ones whom we especially admire -- and we feel proud to be among those selected.

The Nashville company works in fair-trade cocoa and brown sugar, giving all their products a warm, welcoming quality. (They credit it to their Tennessee traditions — but let’s be honest, we should all be this lucky.)
— Paste

We are honored to have been included and can't wait to sample chocolates from some of the other chocolatiers on the list - admittedly, we haven't yet tasted them all.

Thank you to Paste for such a nice write-up!

O&S Presenting Seersucker at the Seeing Red Wine Festival

For the 26th year in a row the quaint, pastel-colored, beachside town of Seaside, Florida will be hosting the Seeing Red Wine Festival in picturesque downtown November 3 - 6. If you know anything about Seaside, you know this charming town is well worth the trip to momentarily escape reality and instead delight your tastebuds and your sense of adventure at this critically acclaimed event.

We were fortunate enough to take the trip down there last year for the 25th annual Seeing Red Wine Festival, and we're just as thrilled to be back this year for the festival's 26th celebration. O&S's Seersucker Candy Co. line will be providing boozy Salted Bourbon Caramel Truffles for the Al Fresco Reserve Tasting on Friday night, an event featuring highly allocated and reserve wines as well as delicious bites and appetizers while accompanied by live music. Tickets to this special event are going quickly - so grab yours here!

As a way to show what we--a bunch of chocolatiers--can do with wine at this wine festival, Seersucker will be presenting a variety of treats at the Grand Tasting on Saturday as well. Our favored rosé gummy bears, on this occasion made with the fitting 30A Rosé, are sure to be a hit for wine-lovers and candy-lovers alike, and a few of our chocolate confections will ensure everyone gets their cocoa fix.

The Seeing Red Festival is always a fun and delicious event -- one that supports underprivileged children in the Northern Florida area -- and the chefs, artisans and winemakers there are second to none.

O&S Involved in Southern Living's 50th Anniversary

Nashville has been able to put a lot of trophies on its shelf over the past few years, with so many travel magazines and websites proclaiming it "The Hottest City in the US" or a "Must-Visit Destination."

But by far the the biggest and shiniest trophy Music City has earned comes from the fine folks at Southern Living magazine. This famed publication chose little ol' Nashville as the destination of its 50th birthday party, and we are over-the-moon excited to be involved in the celebration.

In celebration of Southern Living’s 50th anniversary, the magazine and the city of Nashville have teamed up to bring you a weekend of experiences that celebrate the city’s food, fashion, art, and, of course, music. Each event has been curated by Southern Living editors to provide you with an inside look into the authentic happenings in Music City.
— visitmusiccity.com

The weekend is filled with tons of events showcasing the best that Nashville has to offer: from a dinner under the stars at the beautiful Cheekwood Botanical Garden, to a songwriters In-The-Round night at The BlueBird Café, to a "Sweets & Spirits" Tasting at Olive & Sinclair Chocolate factory (!!!) there will be an event to spark the eye of everyone.

Sadly, our "Sweets & Spirits" tour on Saturday September 3rd has already sold out, but if you want to go and take the tour yourself, we 100% approve. We'll still be open with our normal tour schedule so we know you could make it happen!

Here's the deal: dessert expert extraordinaire Pam Lolley from Southern Living magazine will be leading a tour of Nashville's best treats, including sweets from us at O&S, as well as the famous Goo Goo Cluster shop and Christie Cookies factory. Guests will also enjoy tours and sips from Nelson's Green Brier Distillery and Corsair Distillery.

Bummed you missed the chance to come to our event? So are we. But there are plenty of others we're sure you'll like!

O&S at Music City Food + Wine

Although we enjoyed a far-too-brief bout of dry and cool(er) weather here in Nashville, we at Olive & Sinclair know that we can't count on two measly days of beauty to usher in the chill of Fall. No, we typically mark the onslaught of Autumn by one special event: Music City Food + Wine. A festival that always takes place around the middle of September, we look forward to it for all of the fun we have and for the *hope* that Fall will soon follow.

And while the weather in Nashville won't necessarily be cool by September 18 and 19 (a chocolatier can dream, can't he?), eating and drinking to your heart's content is pretty cool. And really, really delicious.

Along with some of Nashville's most notable chefs and popular restaurants, Olive & Sinclair Chocolate Co. and Seersucker Candy Co. will be at The Grand Taste on both Saturday and Sunday to give you a little something sweet. And all of these folks will be there with us.

Ready to help us usher in the Fall with a weekend of yummy eats and delicious drinks? We don't blame you. And we can't wait to see you there.

Factory Exclusive: Bourbon Lovers Collection

If you know anything about us at Olive & Sinclair you know we love to try new things in the world of sweet, delectable confections. And our siblings over at Seersucker Candy Co are no different!

Whether it's all-natural sour gummies, chocolates filled with pickled cherries, or caramels spiked with salt and vinegar, we all have a lot of fun pushing the envelope in making delicious new treats.

In honor of Father's Day, Seersucker decided to pull out all the stops for dad, making a collection of confections that both he and mom will love--if he's willing to share. The Bourbon Lover's Collection is a limited edition, factory exclusive, extra-special treat that we're proud to announce is now available in store!

This small collection includes four varieties of chocolate truffles filled with bourbon-spiked salted caramel. But here's the kicker: each of the four flavors uses a different bourbon from our collection of all-time favorites. This collection includes Belle Meade Sherry Cask Bourbon, Bulleit Rye Whiskey, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon, and Weller Antique 107 Proof.

Since they are a factory exclusive, these beauties are only available in store! Pick them up at the Seersucker Candy Co. store in downtown Franklin or stop by the O&S Chocolate Factory in East Nashville.

But don't wait! We've only made 100 boxes, so they'll surely go quickly.

Get To Know O&S: Jason Thompson

Jason Thompson

Full Name: Jason Vernon Thompson

Nickname: Two-Beer Thompson (Hell, I'm a cheap date.)

Hometown: Butler, Alabama

Years lived in Nashville?
Nashville for 3 years; Middle TN since 1998

When did you join the O&S Family?
I joined Olive and Sinclair January 2012.

What brought you to O&S?
Scott and I have known each other for 18 years.  We met at MTSU. I was working on a Masters in Sociology of Religion at the time. However, the magnetic pull of Restaurant Kitchen work was too much to resist. When Scott contacted me in 2011 to offer me a job, I tried to dissuade him. As we know that is very difficult and here I am.

What do you do at O&S?
I manage the staff, production, give tours, push paper, and whatever else is asked of me.

What do you like best about working at O&S?
Scott has said, on more than one occasion, that we work with him not for him. What I prefer best about working here is the overall sense of family that pervades our small staff. This sense of camaraderie has created a great non-corporate culture.

What is your favorite O&S treat and why?
When it comes to my favorite treats, I enjoy our Mexican Cinnamon Chili Bar, Salt and Vinegar Caramels, 75% dark chocolate bar, Smoked Nib Brittle. Who the hell am I kidding, I eat all of it.

O&S Makes Country Music's Biggest Night...Sweet!

Last night was one of the biggest and and most exciting celebrations of the year for country music: the CMT Music Awards. Traffic in downtown Nashville came to a near stand-still as celebrities and fans flooded the area, folks at home were glued to their TVs as they soaked up the action, and everyone inside the Bridgestone Arena got their fill of country music and Southern Artisan chocolate.

Well, maybe not everyone.

Its no secret that the artists, performers, and presenters at these types of awards ceremonies receive certain benefits for doing what they do, but we were thrilled and honored to be considered a worthy gift for some of country's biggest stars. Alongside locally-made jewelry, body products, electronics, textiles and even more goodies, Olive & Sinclair's Bourbon Nib Brittle made the cut and went home in the hands of every person who performed.

Even if the recipients of these primo goodie bags didn't win a trophy at Wednesday night's show, we feel happy knowing they have plenty of chocolate they can turn to if they need to soothe their achy-breaky hearts.

Smoked Nib Brittle in Southern Living's 2016 Food Awards!

The South is home to some pretty incredible food. And Southern Living knows it. These folks are the authority on all things tasty, and they've done their fare share of traveling around the South and tasting everything it's got to offer. From spicy jellies, to hoppy beers, to crazy-expensive (and presumably crazy-delicious) honey, the editors over at SL have curated a list of what they believe to be the BEST of the best Southern artisan-crafted foods: the 2016 Food Awards.

That's why we were so blown away to be included in their list! Admittedly, our Smoked Nib Brittle is like the ultimate Southern sweet treat, what with the smoke of the infamous Benton's smokehouse, but we like to think it's all of the time, hard work, and love we add in that really caught Southern Living's eye...or tastebuds.
